  • A: Most Mohs surgery appointments last about three hours, but sometimes they can take longer. The duration depends on how many layers of skin need to be removed to ensure all cancerous cells are eliminated. While waiting, you will have a bandage in place until we confirm the cancer is completely removed.

  • A: No, Mohs surgery is performed under local anesthesia only. This method is much safer than general anesthesia and ensures a faster recovery.

  • A: You may feel a brief stinging sensation when the numbing medication is injected, but you should not experience sharp pain during surgery. After the procedure, mild soreness is expected, but most patients manage discomfort with ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

  • A: On the night before or morning of your surgery, bathe with antibacterial soap and your normal shampoo. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the surgical site, and avoid makeup if your procedure is done on your face. Reducing or stopping smoking before surgery can also improve healing.

  • A: We will provide detailed wound care instructions at your appointment. Basic care includes washing the wound daily with soap and water, keeping it covered with Vaseline and a bandage, and avoiding strenuous activity.
